Welcome to the Wei Lab

My research focuses mainly on the neural control mechanisms underlying the regulation of cardiovascular function, hemodynamics, sympathetic outflow and neuroendocrine in cardiovascular diseases. Using a multifaceted approach including electrophysiology, molecular biology, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, pharmacology, and biochemistry in experimental animal models, our current projects investigate the neuroinflammatory mechanisms on autonomic and neurohumoral activation in heart failure and hypertension, with a particular emphasis on inflammation-driven neuronal excitation, glia-neuron interaction, synaptic plasticity, and intracellular signaling pathways associated with the productions of excitatory mediators in cardiovascular/autonomic brain regions like forebrain subfornical organ (SFO) and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN). We are also interested in exploring the potential neural pathways that mediate immune activation and inflammation-induced sympathetic nervous system activation in the settings of heart failure and hypertension. Additionally, my lab has a particular interest in developing the nanomedicine and nanodelivery approach with the potential to cross the blood-brain barrier to deliver therapeutic agents into the brain to alleviate the sympathetic activation in heart failure.
